June Peterson Gustavson

June Peterson Gustavson, 73, of Yarmouth, Maine, formerly of North Haven, CT, died August 24, in Portland, Maine. She was born in New Britain, CT, June 6, 1929, daughter of the late George E. E. and Mildred Casperson Peterson. She was a graduate of New Britain High School and the University of Connecticut where she received her bachelor's degree. She later did graduate work in education at Southern Connecticut State College. At UCONN she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Mrs. Gustavson was a teacher in the Hamden Public Schools for over 30 years, most of which were spent as a kindergarten teacher at the Putnam Avenue School. She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Haven, where she had been a member of the Church Council as well as the Superintendent of Sunday School. After moving to Maine, she became a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Falmouth. She is survived by her son, Robert G. Gustavson, of Falmouth, ME; her daughter, Pamela G. Johnson, of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren: Emily E. and Peter E Gustavson of Falmouth; Hannah T. and Linnea P. Johnson of Kansas City, MO; her brother, Roger G. Peterson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Gustavson of North Haven. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. A reception will follow. Burial will follow at the Beaverdale Memorial Park. A memorial service will also be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Falmouth, ME, Sat., Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial funds at either Emmaus Lutheran Church, 265 Middle Rd., Falmouth, ME 04105 or Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 Saint Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06511.
