Resided in: Higganum, CT

Kathleen Ann DiMauro Stakey, 69, passed away on the evening of May 14, 2022 after a long fight with cancer, surrounded by her friends and family at her home in Higganum. She was born in Meriden on June 2, 1952 to Angela Downes and the late Michael J. DiMauro, immediately bringing joy and laughter into their world. In her younger years, Kathleen traveled the country until she met her husband and relocated to West Virginia to settle down and start a family. Later, as a single mother of three, Kathleen went on to pursue a degree in Nursing at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV, which kicked off a nearly 40-year career in the field. She was a fiercely dedicated mother, raising all three of her children and her granddaughter, allowing them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to Kathleen, a value she instilled in all those around her. She would give the shirt off of her back to anyone who needed help. The void left by her absence will be impossible to fill. She was a very adventurous woman, had a love of animals and nature, and embraced the outdoors and all of its beauty. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, which reconnected her to her childhood memories. She lived by the motto “Peace-Love-Dove.” Kathleen was predeceased by her father Michael DiMauro, and is survived by her mother Angela Downes; brother Kenneth DiMauro; children Joleen Stakey Uhlig, Raeann Stakey, and Rob Stakey; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating Kathleen’s life will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church, 460 Broad St., Meriden. Interment will be privately held at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
