Kathryn (Kay) Anita Dobie, 88, of Hamden, passed away May 5, 2024 after a brief illness. She was married for 65 years to her beloved husband, the late Albert R. Dobie. Kay was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 7, 1935, daughter of the late Jack and Elsie Fisher Shoot. She grew up in New Haven and raised her family in Hamden. Kay earned her B.A. and Master’s Degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. She taught English composition and American Literature at S.C.S.U. Kay wrote and edited the book, “Her Wars…American Women in WWII.” She loved being with family, reading, doing crosswords, theater, music, and dancing with her husband. She was an avid fan of the UConn women’s basketball team, many of whom she cheered for on a first name basis. Her favorite places on earth were Cape Cod and the Maine coast. She was an avid swimmer, a true water baby, who passed on this passion to her six children and all of her grandkids.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Dobie, her six children Michael (Cathy) Dobie of West Babylon, LI, William (Maura) Dobie of East Haven, Kathleen Dobie (James Hamilton) of Brooklyn, NY, Cynthia Dobie (Bruno Masciana) of Milford, Elizabeth Ann Dobie of Andover, NY, and Stephen (Kim) Dobie of Cheshire; grandchildren Cara, Tracy, Jamie, Corissa, Alana, Nicholas, Julia and Matthew, and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Carlece, Oliver, Maxine, and Abram.
Friends are invited to visit with her family on Friday, May 24th from 4-7 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, and are also invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 25th at 10 a.m. in St. Paul VI Parish-St. Rita Church. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Contributions in Kay’s memory may be sent to the Covenant House of NY at ny.covenanthouse.org.

I attended St. Rita;s School and was friends with her son Steven at the time. She was a a very good hostess to us school kids.
My deepest sympathies to the whole family. She was as lovely woman and will surely be missed. My thoughts are prayers are with you all.
