Leila G. Wheatley
Leila G. Wheatley, 85, wife of the late Harold Lewis Wheatley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012 surrounded by her family at Hamden Healthcare Center. She was born September 23, 1926 in Attleboro, MA a daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys Lake Streeter. Leila loved playing cards with her friends, writing poetry, was a member of the Davenport Dunbar writing group and was also a member of St. Rita's Church in Hamden. She is survived by a daughter, Joanne W. Johnson and her husband Geoffrey of Hamden, three sons, Michael D. Wheatley and Richard Wheatley and his wife Kathi all of Hamden and Daniel P. Wheatley of Ellsworth, Maine, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Streeter Jr., and Gordon Streeter and a sister Jean Bathgate. Her funeral will leave from BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Thursday, June 21 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Rita, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 20 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Leila's memory may be made to either the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108 or the Office of Radio & Television, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712.
As a friend of the family, I remember that she was a sweet and loving woman, who always had a smile on her face and plenty of love to give to who ever came to visit when she was at the Johnson’s home. Her presence just added love to the room. You will certainly be missed. Jenny Consiglio Coe
