Lucy S. Upham
MERIDEN - Lucy S. Upham, 79, formerly of 129 Lincoln Street, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at MidState Medical Center. Born in Meriden on April 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Francis C. and Charlotte Leining Upham. She was a well-known portrait artist in Meriden and ran a nursery school in her home. Also, she had been a teacher at the Girls Club. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the Ruth Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a sister, Charlotte Upham Curtiss of Meriden and a brother, Charles H. Upham of Cos Cob, CT. She was predeceased by a brother, John Hall Upham. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at 12 noon at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Robert Stocksdale will officiate. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
Lucy did a portrait of my younger sister Lauren that was much prized by my parents. We lived across the street from the Uphams for many years. I remember Lucy as a very gentle soul. I am Erin F. Edge, daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Coffey, formerly of 148 Lincoln St.
