MERIDEN - Manuel Cardona, 82, of 120 Veteran Street, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Cecilia Bonet Cardona. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico on May 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Gomer Sindo and Singfordiana Morales Cardona. He had been employed by Aalvarez Martinez Construction Company and National Fence Company, retiring from Local 455 after 55 years of work. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carmen Olga and John Watson of Pauleys Island, S.C., Anne Cardona of Meriden and Doris Johnson and her husband, Joseph of Meriden; three sons, Hiram Cardona and his wife, Wanda, David Cardona and his wife, Anita and Manuel Cardona, Jr. and his wife Lisa, all of Meriden; a sister, Carmen Mejias of Aguada, P.R.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maria E. Cardona and two brothers, Pedro Cardona and Juan Cardona and a sister, Eugenia Mendoza. The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions in Mr. Cardona's memory may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.

  1. Chef David Cardona, I am so sorry to hear about your dad and what you are going through to deal with such a tramatic experience. I will pray for you and your family. Even thought we know that God will take great care of our loved ones when they return home to him it is still hard to cope. I lost my only child four years ago which of course still feels like it was yesterday. I remember every detail and miss him so much. It was and is still very hard to deal with. My fear is losing anyone else close to me since I had such a hard time. I can feel for you and your family and understand the emotions. God Bless you all.
