Marcia A. Cavanaugh, a widely respected trust officer and New Haven leader, passed away peacefully at her home in Hamden on November 9, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on July 18, 1935, in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gerard M. and Ethel Stanburgh Bauman. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul B. Cavanaugh, and is survived by her brother, Gerard J. Bauman, several nieces and nephews, and her loyal friend, Rogelio Cagampan.
Marcia earned her degree from Baypath College in Springfield, MA, and carved a path in the banking industry, establishing herself as a trusted advisor and a leader. Her career as a bank trust officer spanned several decades, beginning with Union Trust Company and culminating in her retirement from New Alliance Bank after distinguished service at New Haven Savings Bank. Marcia was known for her unwavering commitment to her clients’ well-being and her careful stewardship of their financial interests.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marcia was an inspiring mentor and advocate for women in business. She served on the board of the Woman’s Seamen’s Friend Society, supported the Rotary Club and the Girl Scouts, and helped launch the Planned Giving Advisory Group at Gaylord Hospital, a testament to her dedication to community service and charitable giving.
Her colleagues and friends remember her as a compassionate leader whose integrity and commitment left a lasting impact.
Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, was in care of her private burial that took place in Grove Street Cemetery with her closest friends and family. I will miss you, my dear “cuz-bags” -
I never met you in person, except when I was a year old returning from France with my parents Patricia and Gerard Bauman. We exchanged a few letters in my teen years, which I cherish. We spoke quiet a few times in my 40’s and 50’s via phone call. You were always friendly and cordial. I wish we would have met again, but it was not meant to be. We had a few emails that I will never delete. I remember receiving postcards as a child showing all the places you had visited. You put the bug in me to travel the world.
