Margaret 'Peg' Evans
Margaret 'Peg' Evans, 92, wife of the late John Evans, passed away at the Masonic Home on January 17, 2017. Born in Escanaba, MI on December 21, 1924 to the late Walter and Ruth Harder Mayer. Margaret will be remembered by her daughters, Susan (Richard) Marre of Halifax, MA and Barbara Evans of Hartsdale, NY; grandchildren, Michael Marre of Quincy, MA and Luella Otis of Hartsdale, NY; siblings, Elizabeth Willard of New Haven and John Mayer of Bethany; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son, John H. Evans III. Peg spent her childhood in Michigan and Pennsylvania before moving to Hamden after high school. She then lived in Cheshire for 40 years and the last 30 were spent living at Ashlar Village in Wallingford. Peg was the first female president of Ashlar Village and she is a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Alice Chapter. During her time at Ashlar Village she was always volunteering and active within their community. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Saturday, January 21st from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. with an Eastern Star Service at that time immediately followed by her Memorial Service. Burial will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions in Peg's memory may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation of CT, 74 Cheshire Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
