Marina Oquendo, 84, a longtime Meriden resident, loving wife of the late Valentin Oquendo, peacefully passed away on December 11, 2024. She was born on December 26, 1939, a daughter of the late Paulino and Catalina Otero Serrano. She is survived by her daughter, Maria Oquendo and her husband Juan Toro, son, Jose Oquendo and his wife Carmen, siblings, Maria Del Carmen Serrano-Prats, Pablo Serrano, Milagros Cardona, Teresa Martinez, Justa Rosado, Jose Serrano, Natividad Serrano, Maria Mendez, Felipe Serrano, Juan Luis Serrano, and Maria Serrano-Palazzo, her grandchildren, Jonathan Pabon and Noah Oquendo, and great-grandchild, Isabella Pabon. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her daughter, Martha Oquendo, granddaughter, Carol Pabon, sister, Maria Concepcion, and brothers, Guillermo and Angel Serrano. Marina worked at the Meriden Senior Center for years until her retirement. She was a devout parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden, where she taught Catechism for many years. She will be remembered and missed as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Friends are invited to visit with Marina’s family on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Angels-Mt. Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
