Born in: Brighton, MA
Resided in: Hamden, CT

Marion Veronica Davis, of Hamden, Conn., passed away peacefully at St Raphael’s Hospital on Thursday, October 5, 2023 following a brief illness. She was 94.

Ms. Davis was born to Hubert and Edna Davis in Brighton, Massachusetts on March 28, 1929 as the middle child of a family that would grow to five siblings, all of whom predeceased her. A devout Catholic, Ms. Davis maintained a wry sense of humor, a sharp wit, and an appreciation of life’s ironies.

Following graduation from St. Patrick’s High School of Providence, Ms. Davis attended the University of Connecticut, where she was a business major. She started her career in office administration, but soon found her calling as a medical transcriptionist. She worked steadily well into her 80s, and remained grateful for the colleagues and medical professionals who worked alongside her over so many years.

Ms. Davis had nine nieces and nephews and 24 grand-nieces and nephews, for whom she was a joyful presence. She is survived by Millie Kahler, who was Marion’s goddaughter though they were only two years apart in age. It was Millie’s baptism as an adult that sealed their lifelong friendship. The two were steadfast housemates starting in the1970s, eventually settling in a quiet neighborhood of Hamden.

In her spare time, Marion was a voracious reader and a lover of cats. She drove with a heavy foot, and joked about the “hunks” who doled out the speeding tickets, describing them as kind for trying to keep her in line.

One of her passions was the Boston Red Sox, which she followed from childhood. In 2004, when the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years, breaking the “curse of the Bambino,” she told several of her nephews, “Now I can die happy.” She lived another 19 years.

Friends and relatives may visit with Marion’s family at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, prior to her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul VI Parish-St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
