Born in: New Haven, CT
Resided in: Branford, CT

Marjorie E. Adkins, “Grammy,” passed away peacefully at her Branford home on Sunday, October 2, 2022. The only daughter of the late George and Boadicea Taylor, Grammy was born in New Haven on August 15, 1929. Her loving husband of over 60 years, Gordon E. Adkins, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Vallas and her husband David of Branford; her son William Adkins and his wife Lisa of Portland; her grandchildren, Kelly Ruggiero and her husband Mark of West Haven, and Carmen Ferro of Branford, and her great-grandson Christopher Palmieri, Jr. of East Haven. Brothers James and George Taylor predeceased her.
Spending mere moments with Grammy meant learning of the unconditional love she had for her family. Her generosity and kindness often extended beyond just her family, to friends, neighbors, and community members who were lucky enough to cross her path. She was Grammy to everyone she met, even to Jake, the red-winged blackbird that she fed each day. Her quiet days were often spent completing challenging crossword puzzles, reading books three at a time, correctly guessing the daily Wordle, and watching her beloved Yankees go into extra innings. Grammy will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Grammy’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. in Porto Funeral Home, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven. Friends may visit with her family before the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. Contributions in Grammy’s memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society via www.LLS.org.
