Cheshire, CT- Martha Jane Steele, 87, wife of 60 years of G. Donald Steele, of 150 Cook Hill Rd, Chehire CT. passed away June 17, 2005 after a long illness. She was born in Decatur, Indiana January 20, 1918 a daughter of the late Joseph S. and Cleo Roop Linn and resided in Hamden before moving to Cheshire in 1973. Mrs. Steele served in the Marine Corps. during WW II as a staff sergeant stationed at Marine headquarters in Arlington, VA. She was a licensed amateur radio operator, station W1UKL, a member of the American Radio Relay League, and a 30 year member of the Mt. Carmel Book Club. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter Martha Elizabeth Hart of North Bangor, NY, a son George Timothy Steele of Enfield, CT, a brother Richard Linn of Berne, IN., 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday July 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Elim Park Baptist Home. Burial will be private. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Elim Park Baptist Home, 140 Cook Hill Rd. Cheshire, CT 06410-3763.
