Mary Baltayan, age 92 of New Haven, CT, passed away on June 20, 2010. Mary was born Jan. 6, 1918 in Waterbury, CT to Melkon & Mary Nazarian Arakelian. Mary grew up in New Haven, worked for the railroad after high school and was very active on the boards of the YWCA and the Armenian Student Association. She was a long time member of Christ Church where she shared her infamous Paklava and Brownies with the Sunday school for many years. Mary is survived by her husband, Ara Baltayan; her three children, Charles & his wife Mary Baltayan of Hamden, Arthur & his wife Linda Baltayan of New Haven and Rosemary (Ro) Baltayan & her husband Ronald Morris of Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren Charles Baltayan, Adam Baltayan, Raymond Morris and Melissa Morris; as well as her sisters Elizabeth Arakelian & Ann Balayan. Mary was predeceased by her brother Jack Arakelian. Mary will be remembered as the loving and selfless woman she was to her family, church and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church, 84 Broadway, New Haven, on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Friends may also visit with her family at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Mary's ashes will be laid to rest in the Memorial Garden at Christ Church following her ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to: Harborside Healthcare Willows, Activities Dept., 225 Amity Rd., Woodbridge, CT 06525 or to Christ Church, 84 Broadway, New Haven, CT 06511. BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden are in care of arrangements.
