Mary B. Woods, 79, of South Shore Dr., East Haven, loving wife of 61 years to Charles E. Woods, passed peacefully on March 20, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was born February 23, 1928 in New Haven and raised by her mother, Mildred Corbat Martin, and her loving step-father Arthur Lee Martin. Besides being a wonderful wife, Mary was a nurturing mother to her 4 daughters, Sharon W. Knies of East Haven, Cynthia L. Woods, Kathleen W. Mosure and her husband Christopher of Cromwell, and Mary W. Cafro and her husband Daniel of Hebron. Also, a loving grandmother to Kurt and his wife Laura, Chaz, Sarah, Kathy Rae, Adam, Tyler, and Alissa and great grandmother to Ella, Daniel, Tommy, Jason, Kelly and Jillian. She also leaves her brother Lee Brown of Atlanta, GA, and was pre-deceased by her brother H. Larry Brown. Mary graduated from Commercial High School of New Haven in 1946. While still in high school she married the love of her life after just six weeks courtship, this love grew into a lifetime of love and devotion. Mary loved to give to others and showed this during her 20 years as a Volunteer at The Red Cross, Yale New Haven Hospital and Mease Hospital in Clearwater, FL. She was an avid golfer who won several tournaments, loved to dance and go roller skating. During her retirement she became a Published Nature Photographer. Mary was a long time resident of North Haven, retiring with Charles to Palm Harbor, FL in 1983. Mary and Charlie returned to the area in 2005. Her hugs will be missed! A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007 at 12 noon at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL SERVICE, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden. Friends may visit the family on Monday morning from 10am to 12 noon. Memorial contributions in Mary's name may be sent to the American Red Cross, 703 Whitney Ave., New Haven, CT 06511.
