Mary Guida Cummings

Mary Guida Cummings, age 89, of New Haven, wife of the late William T. Cummings, passed away on September 23, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital-St. Raphael Campus. She was born in New Haven on June 20, 1927 to the late Albert and Ann McKiernan Guida. She is survived by her daughters Tracey Foley and her husband Richard of North Haven, and Leslie Schiebe and her husband William of Monroe. Mary also leaves her grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, and Megan Foley, and Billy, Tom, and Mike Schiebe. She is predeceased by her brother Lewis Guida and sisters, Madeline Sugrue, Ann Eddy, and Peggy Lecza. After graduating High School, Mary went on to work for the City of New Haven in both the Dept. of Welfare and the Dept. of Health, where she worked until her retirement. In her free time she was a very active member of St. Francis Church in New Haven. For many years she participated in the St. Francis Junior and Senior Drum Corps, the Woman's Guild, and Christmas Bazaar. She was also a proud member of the New Haven Council of Catholic Woman. Mary also enjoyed spending time at both the Owenego and Silver Sands Beach Clubs. Friends are invited to visit with Mary's family on Tuesday September 27, 2016 from 8:30-10am in the BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11am in St. Vincent DePaul Church, 80 Taylor Ave. East Haven. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to St. Francis & St. Rose of Lima School, 423 Ferry St. New Haven, CT 06513.
