Mary L. Relyea, age 76, died April 14, 2009 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. She was born September 22, 1932 in Walnutport, PA, a daughter of the late Allan Walter and Pearl Annie (Moser) Peters.After earning a BS in chemistry from Drexel and a MS in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Mary was employed at the United States Rubber Company Research Center in Wayne, NJ as assistant technical librarian. From 1976 to 2007 she was director of the Clark Memorial Library in Bethany. Her avocations were reading, gardening, food preservation, and cooking.She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Douglas I. Relyea of Bethany; a sister Ellen Jane Steigerwalt of Center Valley, PA; a son Douglas Jr.; a son Allan B. Relyea of Doylestown, PA; a daughter Susan E. Relyea (formerly Adrianowycz) of Brecksville, OH; a daughter Mary Ellen Relyea of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, Robert and Alexander Relyea of Doylestown, PA, and Sarah and Matthew Adrianawycz of Brecksville, OH; nephews Gary Steigerwalt of South Hadley, MA and Thomas Steigerwalt of Zionsville, PA. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Friday, April 17th from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian Burial through St. John's United Church of Christ will take place on Saturday, April 18th at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Slatington, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at Clark Memorial Library, 538 Amity Road (Rout 63), Bethany, on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be send to Friends of the Clark Memorial Library, 538 Amity Rd., Bethany, CT 06524 OR the National Kidney Foundation, 2139 Silas Deane Hwy, Suite 208, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
