Mary Nitsche Holmes, 80, of 630 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, died peacefully at home Friday, Nov. 24, 2000. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Holmes, with whom she shared a love and friendship that blessed the lives of many. She was born in Meriden on Oct. 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Art and Anna Limmer Nitsche. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by her aunts, Harriet Barry of Meriden and Irene Locke of Cheshire, an uncle, Edward Nitsche of Florida, a sister-in-law, Ruth Nardi of Oakville, a goddaughter and niece, Mona Lindquist of West Hartford, a godson, Glen Alfredson of No. Carolina, nieces, Theresa Marti of Watertown and Jane Drauss of Meriden, nephews, Thomas Barry of Southington and David Holmes of New Hampshire, several cousins and treasured friends, Sharon Duclos, Carol Langston and Christine Peterson of Southington. She was predeceased by a brother, ''Buddy'' Nitsche who was killed in Belgium in WW II. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Holmes' memory may be made to the Franciscan Home Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451 or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
