Mildred M. Newton MANCHESTER NH -- Mildred M. Newton, 95, wife of the late Edward W. Newton, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Villa Crest Retirement Home with her loving family at her side. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, she was born and raised in Thomaston and resided for many years in Meriden. Born August 15, 1914, the daughter of the late George and Clara Florian. She was the valedictorian from the 1931 graduating class at Thomaston High School and graduated with honors from Boston University in 1935. She was a high school math teacher in Thomaston for several years and then was responsible for unit-costing of parachute's manufactured in New Haven during World War ll. She was a member for many years of the Meriden Chorus, Meriden Woman's club and the 1st United Methodist Church. She enjoyed square dancing, quilting, knitting, gardening and travel. She is survived by her son and daughter, Seth (Sylvia) Newton of Derry NH, and Enid (Richard) Band of Londonderry, NH; she also leaves behind five grandchildren, Bret and Ross Newton of Derry NH, Clarissa Moll of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Georgina Henker of Dover, NH, and Priscilla Hofmann of Nashville, Tennessee. She also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren Fiona Grace Moll, Colin Edward Moll, Christian Walter Moll, Louisa Anabel Henker and Penelope Caitlyn Hofmann. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 16 at 1:00 pm at, Walnut Grove Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Meriden Soup Kitchen, PO Box 2138, Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
