John Francis Fox, 95, of Brighton, MA, formerly of Hamden, CT, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014 at Briarwood Nursing Home in Needham, MA. He was born in New York, New York on December 18, 1918 to the late Thomas and Hannah Sullivan Fox. He was married to the late Mary Elizabeth (Bette) Paskins Fox for 35 years and to the late Florence Mastrianni Fox for the last 19 years. John worked and raised his family in Hamden, CT. He retired from the U.S. Army, as a 2nd. Lt. in 1943. He worked as a Fuller Brush Man and in retail for many years. He is survived by his children, Susan (Michael) Mackey of Tinmouth, VT, Regina Shirey of Cupertino, CA, John Jr. 'Buddy' (Marie ) Fox of Summerhill, Ireland, Joan (Paul) Sullivan of Needham, MA, and Chrissie Fox of Hamden, CT. He will be missed by his grandchildren; Lisa Machin, Liam Mackey, Paul, Connor and Hannah Sullivan, Elizabeth, Kyle and Adam Fox. John is also survived by his siblings Christopher Fox of Floral Park, NY and Marie (Tootsie) McLaughlin and her husband Robert of Williston Park, NY. John was predeceased by his granddaughter Jessica Mackey and his siblings Fr. Thomas Fox and Helen Johnson. He will be fondly remembered by the Mastrianni children. John was an active parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Parish for 50 years and a model of Christian faith and love for all of us. He loved golf, the New York Yankees, music and dancing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Civitan Club of Hamden and volunteered for many organizations, even being honored with Connecticut Volunteer of the Year. Funeral from Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden at 9:30 AM on Saturday, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 321 Circular Avenue, Hamden. Friends may also visit with his family at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Internment with Military Honors will take place in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's name to HART United Inc., 72 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT 06473 or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, NewYork, NY 10022.
