Robert B. Hurd, age 90, of Hamden, passed away on October 6, 2013 at Conn. Hospice in Branford. Robert was the husband of Carolen Lewis Hurd. Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 29, 1923, he was a son of the late Robert S. Hurd and Elizabeth Jones Hurd. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Massaro & her husband Vincent and Deborah Miller & her husband James; his son, Stephen Hurd & his wife Sandra all of Hamden; 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his brothers, William Hurd & Russell Jones. Robert was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the First Cavalry Division. He retired in 1988 as Vice President for the Lomas & Nettleton Company; subsequently he worked for the Recreation Department of the Regional Water Company for many years. Robert was one of the founding members of the Dunbar United Church of Christ, a former Boy Scout Leader and instructor for the US Power Squadron and an avid outdoorsman. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 AM in the Dunbar United Church of Christ followed by his interment with Military Honors in the Church Columbarium. Contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Dunbar United Church of Christ, 419 Dunbar Hill Road, Hamden, CT 06514. Arrangements are in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden.
