Nancy A. Barnes, aged 98, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024 at her home. She was born on November 6, 1926 in Meriden to Eric and Beatrice Wood Anderson, and was a lifelong Meriden resident.
Nancy met Elton Wayne Barnes through Ercole and Ida Iarusso during a couples date. Nancy and Elton have been inseparable ever since. The couples spent every New Year’s Eve together.
They were married on May 17, 1958 in a double wedding with her sister Myra and David Houston at First Congregational Church.
Nancy was a stay-at-home mom, volunteering at Girls, Inc. (Girls Club), a member of Trips and Tours at the YWCA. As her girls got older, she substituted in the school cafeterias. Later she became active at St. John Lutheran Church, helping with the church fair.
Nancy enjoyed spending her summers at Lake Hayward in Colchester, first with her children and then her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, daughters, Diane and Suzanne, grandchildren, Chelsea and Evan, great-granddaughters, Maggie and Allie, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by an older brother, Robert, and younger sister, Myra.
The family is forever grateful for the care given to Nancy by the HHC Hospice staff, especially Jeff and Mindy.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a graveside service on Friday, December 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Cemetery, Bee Street, Meriden.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450, or to a charity of your choice. To send condolences, please see obituary at www.beecherandbennett.com.
