Nancy Saccani Hurlburt, former Hamden Town Clerk, died January 31, 2014, at Arden House surrounded by her family. She was born April 18, 1926 in New Haven, CT., the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Mongillo Saccani. After her 1943 graduation from Commercial High School, New Haven, she moved to Hamden and remained a lifelong resident. She served on Hamden Legislative Council, First District ((1985), Hamden Democratic Town Committee (1985-2002) and First District Democratic Committee (1970-2002). Her political career was culminated in service as Hamden Town Clerk from 1987-1995. Prior to that position she was employed as Executive Secretary, Easter Seal Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center, New Haven (1977-1986); Administrative Assistant, Project Life, Agency on Aging (1976-1977); Confidential Secretary to Mayor William L. Adams (1972-1974). Nancy was active in many service organizations including Hamden Lions Club. She was named a Hamden Notable Award Recipient in 1996. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Howard A. Hurlburt, Sr., son, Howard A, Hurlburt, Jr., sister Lorraine Watson. She is survived by a son, Clark Hurlburt, Bethany, CT. and his wife Susan, and daughter, Betsy Hurlburt Gaffney and husband, Paul, Shavertown, PA. and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hurlburt, Shannon Gaffney Castineira, Edward Hurlburt, Craig Hurlburt and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Friends may call Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Interment will be in Centerville Cemetery.   2. I have fond memories of play dates with by my dear cousin Nancy and her sister. I marvel at her accomplishments as wife, mother and public servant. My condolences to Clark, his family and his sister. Betsy May.
