Norma Jean Rapini, 90, of Branford, Connecticut died peacefully on January 11, 2024. She was born on July 22, 1933, in Princeton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Ursie Paschal. Norma and her family moved to Burlington, North Carolina, where she was raised with the help of her loving aunts, Maude Allen and Mildred (Minnie) Driver.
Norma came up north and met her husband of 25 years, Thomas Rapini (Deceased 1985). They made a life for themselves in New Haven, then Hamden, Connecticut, where Norma and Tom raised their three sons, Michael, Dominic, and Allen Rapini. Norma was known for her gardening, love of the outdoors, and great kitchen talent, cooking Italian and Southern delicacies to the delight of her family and friends.
Most importantly, Norma was an avid reader of classic and contemporary novels, taking particular delight in the works of Emily Bronte and Jane Austen.
When not making a home for her family, Norma worked for Pratt & Whitney before becoming a long-term employee of Yale University, working in telecommunication and serving Yale students before retiring in 1993. Norma lived to enjoy her children, grandchildren, and friends during retirement. Travel was a special interest, highlighted by Norma’s trip to London, England, where she reveled in the rich English history and everything to do with the Queen and Royal family.
Mourning the loss of Norma are her sons and their families; Michael Rapini and Katherine Christopher, Dominic Rapini and Susan Rapini (Dandrow), and Allen Rapini and Patty Rapini (Rognlie). Norma was a loving grandmother to Michael and Micah Rapini, Hunter and Blake Rapini (great-grandsons), Ava Rapini, Katlyn, Thomas, and Annie Rapini, Blake Gatison, Amanda Augustine, and Lela Augustine, and Jack and Jenni Rapini. Throughout her life, Norma loved and cared for her family. She was predeceased by her brother Billy Paschal, sister Faye Paschal (Radzwilka), and her brothers Jack and Jimmy Harry. Norma’s legacy also includes numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Guestbook

  1. Norma was a very sweet and wonderful woman. I had the pleasure of knowing her for many years. She was a wonderful mother to her children, and her children were wonderful to her, including her in everything. I never had the pleasure of meeting her husband, but I know that she is with him and Jesus. God bless you for eternity! ❤️

  2. Norma (Mrs. Rapini) was a most wonderful, dignified, thoughtful and kind person. She was so proud of her family and lived a life full of pride in her sons and family. I met her through my college friend Dom. He brought me and a few friends and a coach to Hamden where, unbeknownst to us, Norma had prepared a real seven-course dinner. That was a meal for the ages. We could tell she was loving every moment of having 6 XXXL football players, her sons and husband around a table enjoying what was the best Italian dinner I have ever eaten.

Alison and I always looked forward to sitting with her at the many different family events. She was just a joy-filled lady of grace and caring.

I think of her in heaven now, meeting up with her husband Thomas and telling him all about the family. She will be missed.

  3. Norma and I met in 1979 when she came to work at Yale. We became close friends immediately, and spent many a wonderful time together over the years. (Norma, myself, Tom and my husband Val had so many fun times together) She was a wise and special friend who left a permanent print on my heart, despite our losing touch over the past 10 years. I still find myself quoting her almost daily, even after so much time has passed. I loved her dearly. She was one in a million. Rest in Eternal Peace my Friend. I will keep you in my heart always ♥️🙏🏻♥️
To Norma’s sons, I send my deepest condolences. I will be unable to attend services because I am currently recuperating from a broken leg. Please know I’m praying for you all. 🙏🏻♥️

  4. Aunt Norma , God Bless you. You are with Tom, Angie, Tony & MY Marie now. You were a great aunt to all of us. My family & I Love you very much.
