Peter Fuhrmann, 81, of North Haven, passed away suddenly at Yale-New Haven Hospital on October 3, 2022.  He was born in Hamburg, Germany on August 10, 1941 to the late Richard and Elle Elise Nehls Fuhrmann.  Peter married Dagmar, the love of his life, 60 years ago, shortly before immigrating to the US, where they became proud American citizens in 1971. Peter graduated from Trade School in Germany and was a mason by trade.  His first job after moving to America was for Winchester in New Haven, but shortly after, he started his own contracting business specializing in residential projects as well as working for municipalities especially North Haven.  Spending time with his family was Peter’s most favorite activity and traveling everywhere with Dagmar. He was an avid sports fan of hockey, football, European soccer, and loved his boating days. Never having biological children, Peter shared a loving fatherly role with all of his nieces and nephews, and now their children. Peter had many special friends who became family to him throughout his life. He touched all their lives in special ways and will always be remembered for the individual attention he showered on each and every one of them.  He also leaves his sisters, Ute Giese (Uwe) of Morehead, KY and Elke Barna of Hamden.  He was predeceased by a sister, Rita Schuenzel.

His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. in BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with his family prior to the service in the funeral home from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Guestbook

  1. Peter was one of those individuals who lit up a room and lifted your spirits. His stories were many and always entertaining. Peter embraced life and gave more than he got. His marriage to Dagmar was so special to witness and they were truly “soul mates”.
He left his mark with family and friends on earth and he’ll have God laughing in heaven.

  2. Peter I always enjoyed your company. You were always so upbeat with a smile on your face. You and Dagmar were a special couple. May you Rest In Peace.
