Peter “Pete” Copeland passed away, Thursday, April 20, 2023 after a long battle with illness. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carillon Bell Copeland, and his daughters, Joan (Rusty Eder) of Conowingo, MD, and Kim (Joe Onofrio) of West Haven. He was the proud grandfather of Michelle and Leanne Onofrio of West Haven. Born in 1944 to Willis and Kathryn (Strouse) Copeland, Pete grew up in Hamden. He graduated with honors from West Virginia University, where he met the love of his life, Carillon. Pete owned Pete Copeland Service, specializing in heavy equipment repair. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Congregational Church, Masonic Dayspring Lodge #30 and Scottish Rite. Pete had a love for animals, especially dogs and horses, and flying. He was always up for an adventure, and in later years, he took great delight in woodworking and watching his granddaughters perform musically and theatrically. He is also survived by brothers, Willis Copeland of Hamden and William Copeland (Anna Anderson) of Cheshire, and sisters, Ann (Elton) Smith of Delaware, OH, and Mary Ellen Copeland (Ed Anthes) of Dummerston, VT.
Friends may visit with his family on Friday, April 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, and may attend his Funeral Service on Saturday at 10:00 am at Mt. Carmel Congregational Church, 3284 Whitney Ave, Hamden. Burial will be private with his family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Congregational Church or Gaylord Specialty Healthcare.
