Jacksonville, FL- Phyllis Ann Sheldon, 78, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2007 after a courageous battle with an extended illness. She will be laid to rest in Hamden, CT where she lived most of her adult life. She was loved by all who knew her for her determination, her free spirit, and her loyal friendship and loving kindness. Born in New Haven, CT July 18, 1928 to the late G. Gorton and Mabel Brodrib, she married and lived in Hamden, CT for many years before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1992, where she happily resided at the Carriage Club for 15 years. She was known there for her artistic ability, kindness and concern for others and her love of dancing. In her earlier years, Mrs. Sheldon was employed as a bookkeeper in her father's appliance store "Blair & Brodrib", and was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Haven. She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Arthur G Sheldon and sisters Alyce Wanamaker and Dorothy Weed. She is survived by a loving sister, Jane Ostrander of Westbrook, CT, and nieces and nephews whom she loved: Cindy Ehardt, David Chittenden, John Chittenden, Bob Wanamaker, Paul Wanamaker, Bill Wanamaker, and Janet Guthrie and several great nieces and nephews. She also has a host of loyal friends who will miss her very much. The family wishes to thank the devoted Carriage Club staff, Elderly Love, Life Care Center and Community Hospice for their wonderful care and attention to her these past months and years. Funeral service will be Monday, March 5th, at 11 am at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN, CT with nephew The Rev. Paul Wanamaker officiating. A memorial service is planned for Friday, March 9th at 3:00 p.m. at the Carriage Club, 9601 South Point Drive Jacksonville, FL. Memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospice of NE Florida Foundation, 4114 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville Fl, 32257.
