Phyllis Fitzgerald, 86, of Hamden, passed away peacefully at St. Raphael’s Hospital on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 surrounded by her loving husband, Lawrence, and her family. Phyllis was born on May 30,1939 in Derby, Connecticut to the late Peter and Anna Natowich Preneta.

Growing up in Derby, Phyllis was very active at Derby High School, from which she graduated in 1956. She was the captain of the cheerleading squad. She led a social life surrounded by many friends.

Phyllis was very active following her passion as a figure skater. She was an active member of the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club, the United States Figure Skating Association. She was proud of her membership in the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association.

Phyllis will be remembered by her husband, Lawrence E. Fitzgerald; her sons Lawrence P. Fitzgerald and his wife Linda, and Christopher J. Fitzgerald and his wife Catherine; her 5 grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Kelly, Anna, and Lawrence D. Fitzgerald; her sister-in-law Judith Thomas; and many friends.

Friends are invited to visit with Phyllis’s family on Friday November 14th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 15th at Noon at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, St. Paul VI Parish, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

  2. I worked with Phyllis in the trust department at the Union Trust Company in the 70s. She was full of life and good advice, and nothing put a sparkle in her eyes like sharing her stories about family and figure skating. My condolences to the entire family.
