Robert L. Gibbons, 90, of Woodbridge, beloved husband of Ruth Carrano Gibbons for 59 years passed away Oct. 7, 2011. Loving father of Cynthia Gibbons and Jacqueline Gibbons both of Woodbridge, brother of Dorothy Davis of Anoka, MN. Robert was born in Independence, IA, Aug. 19, 1921, the son of the late George R. and Veta Downs Gibbons and proudly served in the US Army during WW II in Alaska, England and Germany. He was a self employed landscaper and was a founding member and former President of the CT Groundskeepers Association. A Woodbridge resident since 1958, he attended Our Lady of the Assumption Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 10 from 5-8 PM at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Rd., Woodbridge, Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors in North West Cemetery in Woodbridge. Contributions in his memory may be sent to The Masonic Charity Foundation of CT in recognition of the excellent care provided to Robert by the ACU Hospice staff at Masonicare Health Center, Masonic Charity Foundation P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
