Roberta Marie Hobbes
Roberta Marie Hobbes, 97, of South New Road, Hamden, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014 at her home. Roberta was the loving wife for 64 years to the late Oscar H. Hobbes; mother of Lori & her late husband Philip Hekeler of Cheshire and Shirley & her husband Paul Zaloumis of Roxbury; grandmother of Keith (wife Barbara) & Kurt (wife Lisa) Hekeler, Peter (wife Estee), Marc (wife Carole), Matthew (Bonnie) & the late Craig Zaloumis, and M'Liss D'Angelo; sister of Patricia Biastre of Newport, RI & Richard Moniz of Fresno, CA. Roberta is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Madeline, Samantha, Philip & Kyle Marie Hekeler, Shannon, Tyler, Paul & Zachary Zaloumis, and Bryan D'Angelo; niece, Pamela (husband Mike) Castro; several nieces and nephews and her loyal protector Bishka. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for 60 years. Born in Middletown, RI on November 13, 1916 to the late Manuel and Delphine Elsie Souza Moniz. She worked as a Seamstress at the Newport Naval Base during WWII & as a tailoress for Mr. Brown The Tailor & many of Newport's prominent families. She and Oscar shared an obsession with English Bulldogs having owned 8, many of which were show dogs. She enjoyed weekends in Newport with Occie, traveling with Lori, special days out with Shirley, and a lifetime of heartfelt memories with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she spoke recently of God taking her home she said, 'I am going to miss everyone and everything.' Friends may visit with her family on Friday, January 24th at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Bernie and I were sorry to learn of Bert’s passing and extend our sympathy to all of you We are currently in Puerto Rico or we would have been with you.

George and I, Mike and Kate were sorry to hear of Roberta’s passing. Our prayers are with you and your family. I’d like to think she and Occie are together again with Mom and Dad around the kitchen table just chewing the fat as she would have said. Old friends together again.
