On Jan. 9, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital, Rosa Cupo Avallone, 90, wife of the late Gerardo Avallone of Lenox St., New Haven, mother of Wanda Velez of New Haven, Frank Avallone and his wife, Marilyn of Guilford and Thomas Avallone of New Haven, mother-in-law of the late Joseph Velez, sister of the late Gaetano Cupo, grandmother of Linda Velez, Joseph Velez, Frank G. Avallone, Anthony Avallone, Jenae Avallone and Edward Avallone, great-grandmother of Anthony, Christopher and Sophie. Also survived by many nephews and nieces. Rose was born in New Haven, Sept. 9, 1916 daughter of the late Francesco and Vita Basile Cupo. At an early age she returned with her mother to Italy. Rosa was married there, where she resided for 36 years. She returned to the United States in 1956 and lived in New Haven until her death. Rosa was a very loving and charitable person who extended herself to anyone who needed help. She was a seamstress at Strouse Adler Co. for 20 years. Funeral leaving BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave. at Court St., West Haven at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 115 Blatchley Ave., New Haven. Interment at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call Thurs. from 4 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Frank Avallone, 4 Rollwood Dr., Guilford, CT 06437 for Rosa's favorite charity, St. Anthony Orphanage in Rome, Italy.
