Roxie Mae McKnight-Murray of 2324 North 71st St., Omaha, NE formerly of Vine St., New Haven and Goodrich St., Hamden, died Tues., Feb. 13, 2007 at Maple Crest Hospital in NE. Roxie was born in Kingstree, SC, August 20, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Moses and Elease McClary McKnight. Roxie lived in CT for many years then relocated to Omaha. Roxie graduated from high school and furthered her education as an R.N. She retired as an RN in 1979, in the early 70's she owned a Soul Food Restaurant in New Haven on the corner of Dixwell Ave. and Broadway. She is survived by seven children, Sarah Crudup of Omaha, NE, Lorenzo and Terrie Murray of New Haven, Lenora and Anthony London and Freddy Murray all of Virginia Beach, Barbara Murray of New Haven, Valencia and Michael Baldwin of Virginia and Craig and Laura Murray of Stafford Springs, CT. Roxie is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, three sisters Lathonia Lee of Greeleyville, SC, Berthena McKnight of Charleston, SC and Madie Mazyck of North Haven, a brother Willie Roper of Winston-Salem, NC, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Willie Woods and Ernest McKnight, a sister Laura McBride, a nephew Andre McKnight and a son-in-law Jimmy Crudup. Funeral service Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment in Centerville Cemetery in Hamden. Friends may call Wed. from 9 - 11 a.m.
