Roy William Schaefer, 84, beloved husband of Patricia Hill Schaefer of 24 Shadycrest Rd., Meriden, passed away on Sat., Nov. 22, 2003 after a lengthy illness at Midstate Medical Center. Mr. Schaefer was born in Meriden, Jan. 16, 1919, to the late Otto and Ida Sehl Schaefer. He was a graduate of Meriden High School and Dean Academy in MA. Mr. Schaefer served his country honorably during World War II, in the E.T.O.,3rd.Army, 4th armored division earning 5 battle stars. He retired from the Napier Co. after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Antique Veterans, Meriden Rod and Gun Club and a former member of the Nutmeg Beagle Club and the Meriden Management Club. He was a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was the father of two children, Douglas H. Schaefer of Meriden and Polly DeRoy and her husband Roy of Vermont. He leaves his twin brother, Howard C. Schaefer and his wife of Vero Beach, Fl. He was the grandfather of Jamie M. Schaefer of Meriden, Jessica D. Paquin of Middletown, Jonathen, Gregory, Jeremy and Allison DeRoy all of Vermont and great-grandfather of Lexi and Paige. He also leaves two nieces, Nancy Seadale and her husband, Carl of R.I. and Monica Schmidt and her husband, George of Wallingford. He is also survived by a nephew, H. Charles Schaefer of Fla. Funeral Service will Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT FLATOW Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave. Meriden, Monday (today) from 6-8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06450.The family wishes to thank the staff of Miller Memorial and Midstate Hospital for all their concern.
