Ruth Carolin Hinchliff, age 95, of North Haven formerly of Hamden, passed away April 7, 2011. Ruth was the widow of George Joseph Hinchliff, married for 46 years. Born in New Haven on June 10, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Francis & Mary Etta Yoke Hammond. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Susan Hammond-Hinchliff Zelanakas & her husband Robert of North Haven, her sons, Peter George Hinchliff & his wife Patricia of Hamden and Michael Thomas Hinchliff & his wife Cindy of Belmont, VT; 7 grandchildren, David Zelanakas, Cheryl Marchisano, Allison Rosenberg, Stephanie Barrett, Scott Hinchliff, Jamie & Colin Hinchliff and 7 great grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by 2 sisters and a brother. She was a loving and caring wife and mother who was proud of her children and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was pleasant to everyone she knew and met and never complained. Although she was a quiet person she delighted everyone with her quick-witted responses to their playful questions. She graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven and worked at the Connecticut Savings Bank and in the offices of the Edward Malley Co. and the W.T. Grant Co. in New Haven. She was a member of the Dunbar Hill United Church of Christ and enjoyed working and socializing with the women's fellowship, especially when they made and sold their apple pies in the fall. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Her funeral service will begin Saturday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden.
