Sarah Walsh Foley, a long-time resident of Hamden, Connecticut, died peacefully in her home with her beloved husband Edward 'Ned' Foley by her side, surrounded by family, on July 1, 2018. Sarah, 80, was born on August 18, 1937, in Kysalia, Kilkerrin, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. She was the youngest of ten children (Martin, John, Mamie, Joseph, Margaret, Patrick, Delia, Coleman, and Bartley), of the late Martin and Anne (Connolly) Walsh, all of whom predeceased her. Sarah immigrated to the United States in 1957. She met Ned Foley at an Irish dance in New Haven and they married on June 20, 1959. Sarah is survived by her six loving children: Anne (William) Froehlich, Laurel NY; Eamonn Foley, New York City; Mary (Patrick) Masterson, Hamden CT; Margaret (Steven) Montinieri, New Milford CT; Catherine Foley (Peter Alegi), East Lansing MI; and Brendan (Shannan) Foley, Hamden CT. Sarah was the grandmother of Fritz, Sarah, and Madeline Froehlich, Sophie and Anna Alegi, Sinead Masterson, and Finn and Ned Foley, and the great-grandmother of Carmine Gentile. In addition to raising her children, Sarah provided private nursing care for many over the years and always spoke fondly of them. Sarah had an easy laugh and great curiosity. She was an avid reader, gardener, bird lover, active parishioner at Saint Rita Church, and spoke fluent Gaelic. She enjoyed travel with her husband, making annual trips to Connemara and Dingle, Ireland. Sarah was a great mother and was enormously proud of her children. 2. Ned and children, So sorry to hear the news of Sarah passing. I don’t know how to tell you how much your family meant to me growing up. You and Sarah were so kind to my dad when he was sick and wonderful to my mom when he passed away. Ann was my first babysitting job! Visiting with you on my trips back home was always a treat….catching up on everything that all the kids were doing. Though I moved from Hamden, as you know,, my heart was/is always back home where our special friends live. Park Avenue will not be the same without Sarah Foley.
    Sincerely,
    Mary Lou and Dean Griffin
