Shirley Ruth Adamik died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 29, 2017 in Meriden, CT, at the age of 89. Shirley was predeceased in death by her husband of 54 years, John F. Adamik, and her daughter, Karen Peruti. She is survived by her children; Linda and husband Patrick Nestor, John and wife Mary Adamik, and Daniel and wife Jane Adamik; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and her lifelong friend Ann Staskiewicz. She held a special spot in her heart for her granddaughter Michele Messier, whom she raised from the age of 6. She is also survived by her siblings; William Dehnel, Albert Dehnel, and Gloria Ferguson. Her siblings Herman Dehnel, Helen Dehnel, Dorothy Saleski, and Mildred Fischer preceded her in death. Shirley was born in Meriden on January 4, 1928 to the late William and Elizabeth Lidke Dehnel. She spent her entire life in Meriden. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus. Shirley loved to travel and enjoyed cruises to Bermuda, trips to Disney World, and many adventures with her family and friends. Shirley worked for many years at the Southern New England Telephone Company. Shirley enjoyed family celebrations and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for backyard picnics, holiday parties with Czapiga’s kielbasa, and family vacations. The family would like to thank Sister Catherine Mary Clarke and Jan Louiselle for their care, guidance, and compassion. Friends are invited to visit with her family on Saturday, January 6th at BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave, Meriden, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with her Funeral Service in the funeral home at 12:00. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Shirley's memory to Franciscan Home and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451.

  1. Danny and Jane- So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. When we were kids growing up in the .old neighborhood., she was our good neighbor and friend. I will always remember her laugh and smile.
