Shirley D. Mesham, beloved wife of the late Horatio G. Mesham, formerly of North Haven, recently of Hamden, passed away on September 16, 2016, at the Whitney Center. She was born in West Haven on June 4, 1928, to the late Louis Joseph DuPaul and Dorothy Jantzer DuPaul. She is survived by her sisters, Carol D. Hubbell and Jane D. Bishop and her husband Gene, sister-in-law Linnea Mesham, and several nieces and nephews, Jonathan (Nancy) Bishop, Kimberly (Scott Van Patten) Bishop, David (Marianne Doherty) Hubbell, Peter (Caroline) Hubbell, John (Nancy) Mesham, David Mesham, Ellen (George) Gould, Cathy (Steven) Osterling and Christine Page. She also leaves her extended family at the Whitney Center. Shirley was predeceased by her step-father, Reeves T. Spencer, and her sister, Susan Thankful Spencer. After graduating from Commercial High School in New Haven, she went on to work for Second National Bank. She then went on to work for Wyatt Oil Inc. as an Executive Secretary for over 50 years until her retirement. Shirley was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling the world and collecting unique jewelry. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her nephew and niece, Jonathan and Nancy Bishop, for helping her during her courageous battle and also the medical staff and teams that have helped her in recent years. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Shirley's life on Saturday October 1, 2016, at 11am at Church of the Holy Spirit, 28 Church St. West Haven. Interment to follow in the Church of the Holy Spirit Garden of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be sent to the SARAH Foundation Inc. 246 Goose Ln. Ste. 104, Guilford, CT 06437.
