MERIDEN - Shirley Dean Porter, 91, formerly of Heritage Commons in Middletown, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at The Bradley Home in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Porter. Born June 3, 1910 in Brattleboro, VT, she was the daughter of the late Delmar and Mabel Littlefield Trout. Her father, the Rev. Delmar Trout was the original Pastor of the Universalist Church in Meriden. She was a graduate in 1930 of the Smith Culver Kindergarten Training School in Hartford and was a member of the Connecticut Teachers Association. She was a fifty-year member of the Frederica Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and had been a member of the Universalist Church in Meriden. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Peter Kenefick of Old Saybrook; three grandchildren, Peter Kenefick, Jr. of San Clemente, CA, Ellen Duran of Port St. Lucie, FL and Scott Kenefick of Thomasville, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Alex Kenefick and Julia Kenefick of San Clemente, CA, Jason Duran of Port St. Lucie, FL and Ishmael Kenefick of Thomasville, NC. She was predeceased by a grandson, Peter Kenefick III. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
