Shirley M. Evarts
Meriden/East Haven - Shirley M. Evarts, 86, wife of the late Seward Evarts passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Meriden Center. She was born Feb. 10, 1921 in New Haven a daughter of the late William and Anna (LaCour) McDowell. Until her retirement she was employed for SNET. Shirley was a member of Old Stone Congregational Church in East Haven for over 70 years and a member of the church choir for over 60 years. Shirley was started Playschool Preschool at Old Stone Church in 1962 and still continues today. She was also a member of East Haven Friends of Music. She is survived by a son Loren and his wife Rosemary Evarts of Meriden and one grandson, Tristan Evarts. She was predeceased by a brother Charles McDowell and two sisters, Harriett McDowell and Helen Carter. A memorial service will be held in March at Old Stone Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers donations in Shirley's memory may be made to Old Stone Congregational Church Music Fund, 251 Main St., East Haven, CT 06512. The Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook AVe., Meriden is in charge of the arrangements.
