Keck, The Reverend Janice Lee Osburn The Reverend Janice Lee Osburn Keck of Bethany died on Oct. 14, 2001. She was born June 19, 1926 in Huntington,WV and grew up on her grandparents' farm near Wayne, WV. A graduate of Berea College (1949), she received her B.D. from Boston Univ. School of Theology in 1952, and became Program Director of the student YWCA at the University of Nebraska. After her marriage to Leander E. Keck in 1956, then completing his Ph.D. at Yale, she joined the staff of the YWCA in Stamford, and later Boston. Upon moving to Nashville, TN in 1959, she was active in the YWCA as well as church work. Moving to Atlanta in 1972, she served as Director of Children's and Family Ministries at the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Emory University where she developed an inter-generational church school program, and was ordained in 1978. While in Atlanta, she began her studies for the D. Min. degree, continuing them at Yale Divinity School after moving to New Haven in 1979. From 1981-85 she served as Associate Pastor for Educational Ministry at Yale's Battell Chapel. Here she focused on the faith development of young adolescents, turning some of her research into her thesis for the D. Min. degree, which Emory University awarded in 1988. Unfortunately, her career was cut short by Alzheimer's Disease. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Stephen in Singapore and David in Durham, NC, two brothers, John and Byford Osburn, a cousin, two nieces, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Battell Chapel (Cor. College & Elm), New Haven on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 11:00 a.m. and at the United Methodist Church in Wayne, WV on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery near the family home in Wayne County, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518. Arrangements under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
