Theodore 'Roman' Romaniuk, 86, of Hamden, died on December 12, 2013. Born on August 15, 1927 in Pidlysia, Ukraine to the late Ivan and Maria Romaniuk. Roman will be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mary Chowanec Romaniuk; sons, Taras and his wife Jackie of North Haven, Bohdan and his wife Teresa La Forgia of Glenn Dale, MD, Yuri of Bryn Mawr, PA; grandsons, Andy and Stefan. Roman grew up in Ukraine before moving to America in 1951. A year later he joined the US Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge, he and Mary moved to the New Haven area and have lived in Hamden for over 17 years. Roman was a member of the Ukrainian American Veterans club, the Ukrainian Veterans club, a lifelong member of the Ukrainian Boy Scouts (PLAST), and had been a member of a Ukrainian Dance Troup. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Monday, December 16th at 9 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Friends may visit with his family at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Panachyda Service held at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Contributions in Roman's memory may be sent to St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George St, New Haven, CT 06511.

  3. Ted was a good friend to my mother, Dorothy Krooner, for many years. We have not forgotten that Ted and Mary were helpful to her in so many ways. We remember Ted as a soft-spoken, kind and understanding person and know he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
