Meriden - Valentin Oquendo, 72, husband of Marina (Serrano) Oquendo passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009 at MidState Medical Center. He was born June 5, 1936 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico a son of the late Cruz and Felicita (Meyer) Oquendo. He was a machinist at Pratt & Whitney before retiring. He attended St. Rose and Holy Trinity Churches, was an avid craftsman and an expert florist. In addition to his wife Marina he is survived by two daughters, Maria Oquendo and her husband Juan Toro of New Britain and Martha Oquendo-Pabon and her husband Miguel of Meriden, a son, Jose Oquendo of Middletown, three sisters; Maria Mendez and her husband Raymond, Margo Ramos and Tomasa Cordero and her husband Manuel all of Meriden, and two brothers, Cruz Oquendo Jr. and his wife Myrna of Puerto Rico and Efrain Oquendo of Meriden. He also leaves, three grandchildren, Noah Oquendo and Carol and Jonathan Pabon, and many nephews and nieces, including Marcus Oquendo, Daniel Oquendo, Yara Mendez, Benjamin Palzzo Jr., Shiela Prats, Carol Prats, and William Concepcion. A Catholic service will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 1:00 pm at the Beecher and Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 8 from 5-8 pm.
