Violet Dodge Spencer
MERIDEN-Violet Dodge Spencer 85, of 252 New Hanover Ave., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of the late James R. Spencer, Sr. She was born in Bristol on Nov. 3, 1915, the daughter of the late George C. and Lovina Bowman Dodge and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. She retired as an LPN from Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. Mrs. Spencer was a 50-year member of Meridien Chapter #8, Order of Eastern Star and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lovina Bailey of Southington, Carol and Fred Lesiak of Meriden, a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Judith A. Spencer, Jr. of Meriden, a sister, Frances Perkins of Meriden, six grandchildren, Dr. Robert Bailey of Coventry, William A. Bailey, Jr. of Avon, Lynette Dell'Aera of Southington, David Spencer of New Port Richey, FL, Scott Spencer of Lebanon, NJ and Marc Spencer of Endicott, NY; and five great-grandchildren, Kristen McClanahan Spencer and Layne Spencer, both of New Port Richey, FL, Ellery Spencer, Katherine Spencer and William Spencer, all of Lebanon, NJ. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan, 2, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Eric Henderson will officiate. Private burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
