Virginia Ann (Scribner) Bodin, 96, passed away peacefully in her husband’s arms on January 28, 2024, in Wallingford, Connecticut.  “Ginny” was the beloved wife of Gustaf (“Gus”) Richard Bodin. She was born on December 27, 1927, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Ethel (Biermacher) and Bruce D. Scribner and grew up in Guilford Lakes.  She graduated from Guilford High School in 1945 and The Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro in 1949, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

After college, Ginny worked as the assistant to the personnel manager at the Home Insurance Company in New York City.  She met Gus, the love of her life, on Fourth of July Weekend, 1953.  They were married on November 28, 1953, at the First Congregational Church in Guilford and honeymooned in Williamsburg, Virginia. Williamsburg held a special place in their hearts and they returned every five years through 2008 to celebrate their anniversary.

Ginny and Gus lived in Madison and New Haven after they were married, then built a house in Guilford where they resided for more than 55 years.  She was an avid swimmer, gardener, loved canning, cooking, baking sourdough bread, reading, knitting, doing crossword puzzles and traveling every summer to Cushing, Maine.

She served on many committees at the First Congregational Church in Guilford, was a substitute teacher and volunteer in the Guilford school system, and a volunteer at the Guilford Public Library.  Gus and Ginny enjoyed traveling through the U.S., Canada and Europe during their marriage.  They moved in 2014 to Ashlar Village, a Masonic retirement community, in Wallingford.  She is survived by her husband, Gus; son John (Ellen) Bodin of Chittenden, Vermont; daughter Gayle (Sean) Petty of Monument, Colorado; daughter Susan (David) Priest of Chittenden, Vermont; along with grandchildren Morgan, Travis, Erin and Kristen Petty, and Ethan, Jesse and Erika Bodin, as well as three great-grandchildren, all of whom she took great pride and joy in.

Special thanks to Masonicare and the Hospice staff and Millie Akuoko of Angie’s Prestige Homecare, for providing Ginny with outstanding care and the compassion shown to the family.

A celebration of life will be held on March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the Hartog Auditorium at Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia’s name can be made to Masonicare Hospice & Palliative Care, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492 or the Alzheimer’s Association (https://act.alz.org).
