Walter Robert Bergstrand, age 80, of Hamden, passed away March 29, 2011 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Emma Mazinski Bergstrand. Born in New Haven on November 10, 1930 he was the son of the late Walter & Mary Johnson Bergstrand. Walter was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the USS Vulcan. He retired from the United Illuminating Company, in their Electrical Engineering Maintenance Dept. He was a member of the Masonic Day Spring Lodge #30 AF & AM, American Legion Post #88 and a life- long Red Sox fan. Walter is survived by his daughters, Tracey Bergstrand & her husband Bernard Kravnick of Stewartsville, NJ, Valerie Hinds & her husband Kevin of Peoria, AZ and Cynthia Guerrero of Merced, CA; his sons, William Bergstrand of Hamden and Robert Bergstrand of Mesa, AZ; his step-daughter Deborah Wells of Hamden; his sister Frances Benoit of Hamden; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Friends may visit with his family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM with a Masonic Service held at 7:30 PM and may attend his Funeral Service on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Centerville Cemetery. Contributions in Walter's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St, East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
