In West Haven, June 10, 2008, William E. Browne, Sr. of 115 South Montowese St., Branford. He was born in New Haven on August 31, 1920, son of the late John J. and Anna Frances McPartland Browne. Father of Susan Claire Darling of White River Junction, VT, Tracey Ann Berry and her husband Scott Jordan Berry of Darien, CT, and William F. Browne, Jr. and his wife Cheryl Charbeneau of Windsor, VT. He also leaves four grandchildren: Jennifer Elizabeth Darling of AZ, Amy Ann Darling of CA, Samantha Jane Berry and Maxwell Jennings Berry of Darien, his former wife Ann T. Browne of Branford and sisters Dorothy Conroy of Wethersfield and Barbara Maciatra of New Britain. Mr. Browne was predeceased by a son Michael Browne in infancy, sisters, Virginia Browne Macabie and Shirley Browne Murphy and brothers, John F. Browne and Kenneth A. Browne. Mr. Browne was a stock broker for Charles Scranton, Co. and A.G. Edwards of New Haven, retiring in 1984. He then served as Director of Public Relations for the Human Resource Education Group of Meriden for the next ten years before retiring. He also volunteered to direct a motivational program at the Cheshire Correctional Institute for six years. Mr. Browne was a former member of the San Salvador Knights of Columbus, the Guilford Rotary and was currently a member of the American Legion Post 89. He was a Veteran of WW II, a Cpl. in the Army Infantry from Nov. 1942-Oct. 1945, landing on Omaha Beach, participating in 5 major battles. He received the bronze star for Valor and the Purple Heart. A Memorial Service will he held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the First Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Drive, Darien, CT. at 11 a.m.
