William L. Moriarty

William L. “Bill” Moriarty, 79, loving husband of 55 years to Irene Bugler Moriarty, passed away on September 16, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Hartford, CT on September 14, 1944, son of the late William G. and Edith Lofgren Moriarty. A life-long resident of South Meriden, he graduated from Platt High School, Class of 1962, attended Lowell Technological Institute, now UMASS Lowell at Lowell, MA, and was a member of the Phi Lambda Phi Fraternity. He was a chemist for the International Silver Co., American Chemical and Refining Co., and Kinney Manufacturing. During his career Bill was awarded 18 U.S. patents in precious metal plating. He also owned and operated the Shamrock Restaurant on West Main St. in Meriden with his father from 1968 to 1986. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of Meridian Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite of the Free Masons of Bridgeport, and Pattaconk Yacht Club of Chester, CT. Besides his wife Irene, Bill is survived by his brothers-in-law Bertram Schmitz Jr., George (Judy) Bugler, Robert (Denise) Bugler, and John Bugler, devoted cousin Elaine (Jeffrey) Niland, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a special godchild, Emily A. Niland. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved sister Lizabeth M. Schmitz, his mother and father-in-law George and Irene Bugler, and brothers-in-law Richard and Ronald Bugler. Bill loved his family, friends, boats, and Corvettes.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Rd., Meriden, CT 06451. His family’s wishes are that people dress casually. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
