Winifred I. 'Winnie' Shea, 93, of Hamden passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016 at Atria Larson Place. A daughter of the late Samuel and Nellie (Twining) Bertine, Winnie was born in New Haven on June 5, 1922. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Shea. She was part of the first graduating class of Hamden High School and then became the private secretary to the president of the Southern CT Gas Company. Throughout her life she also worked for Talon Zipper Company and as a bookkeeper for Glenwood Drive-In. Winnie was an avid golfer and traveler, especially enjoying the Farms Country Club in Wallingford. She lived in Florida for 25 years before returning to Connecticut. While in Florida she was a member of Seven Springs Country Club in Trinity. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Winnie is survived by her son Frank Wayne Stone and his wife Sheila of Hamden, daughter Sandra L. Marmora and husband Joseph of Shelton; grandson Robert Stone; granddaughters Kelly Ciccone and her husband Joseph, Kristin Dolan and her husband Michael, Karen Brown and her husband Steve, Stacey Pereira and her husband Jim, Caron Reilly and her husband Jim, and Kimberly Marmora and her husband Ed; and 11 great-grandchildren. Winnie was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Burns, and brothers, Lawrence Bertine and Austin Bertine. The family would like to extend their very special thanks to Christine and her loyal, caring staff at Atria Larson Place, especially the consolation nurses and aides who took such special loving care of their Winnie. All services will be held privately. BEECHER AND BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden is in care of the arrangements. Memorial donations in Winifred's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
